Enhanced Recovery After NeuroSurgery : Opioid Management in Spinal Surgery
This resource describes the Enhanced Recovery After NeuroSurgery (ERAS) protocol implemented by the University of Pennsylvania Department of Neurosurgery for spine and peripheral nerve surgery patients. The protocol aims to reduce opioid use and improve outcomes through a multi-disciplinary approach. The study shows that the ERAS protocol reduces opioid use, reduces hospital length of stay, and does not increase readmission rates. However, limitations include a retrospective analysis and lack of randomization and blinding.
